Can I follow the Lean for Life program if I'm breast feeding my baby?
There is not enough known about how a nursing mother being in mild dietary ketosis would affect the baby, so we recommend that you wait until you completely finish breastfeeding before starting the Lean for Life program. In addition, being on a weight loss diet with decreased calorie intake and food restrictions may have a negative effect on the baby's optimal health and well-being. Dieting can also decrease or stop the production of breast milk....
Is the Lean for Life program appropriate for a former bulimic?
Many individuals with a history of bulimia have successfully participated in the Lindora Lean for Life program to achieve a lean, healthy weight. The same components of bulimia treatment programs - close monitoring, highly structured plans, stress reduction - are also components of the Lean for Life Program. The only other consideration is the recent use of Zoloft, an anti-depressant, which seems to have some benefit in minimizing bulemic tendencies....
Does depression cause weight gain?
Yes. Depression has been associated with weight gain and weight loss. It's usually a matter of degree; when people are mild to moderately depressed, they tend to eat more. Some people refer to this as "stress eating." When someone is very depressed, they sometimes stop eating altogether and, in severe cases, may even have to be hospitalized and fed intravenously. There is a known association between decreased serotonin - which is associated with depression - and increased appetite/hunger. (Interestingly, studies have shown that people with anorexia nervosa have abnormally increased serotonin activity which may partly explain how they can eat so little.)...
Does the Lean for Life Program help reduce cholesterol?
Most of our cholesterol is naturally produced by our body, and some (dietary cholesterol) is from the food we eat. Some people naturally produce more cholesterol than others. The latest research shows that some individual's blood cholesterol levels are not significantly affected by the dietary cholesterol they consume, while other people experience a much greater effect. It appears to be a matter of genetics....
Is dietary ketosis harmful to the liver?

Are there any effective natural diuretics?
Yes. Regular black tea is a safe, natural diuretic that will work for you if you are not a regular user of caffeine. Two other herbal diuretics are corn silk tea and freeze-dried dandelion leaf. Both are mild and nontoxic. You can get cornsilk tea in health-food stores or make it yourself if you have access to fresh corn by steeping the silks in boiling water for ten minutes. Drink one cup two to four times a day. The dose for freeze-dried dandelion is one or two capsules two to four times a day. Hawthorn berries are a stronger diuretic. Take these remedies only when symptoms of fluid retention are present. You may also want to try boiling a ¼ lemon and drinking the hot lemon water to obtain a mild diuretic effect....
How can I tell if I have Binge Eating Disorder?

How is diabetes diagnosed?
A small sample of blood is withdrawn and tested for the presence of glucose (blood sugar). Your doctor will usually test your blood after a period of "fasting" (nothing to eat or drink except for water) for eight hours. A blood test that is done without prior fasting is called a "random" or non-fasting test....
What is "fatty liver?"
Fatty liver (also known as steatosis) is the accumulation of fat in liver cells. It has been associated with alcohol use, weight gain, and diabetes. What causes hair loss during dieting?

The condition is usually resolved when the person stops losing weight and gradually increases calorie intake by going on to a nutritionally balanced maintenance eating plan....
What is homocysteine? Can it cause heart disease?
Researchers are calling homocysteine "the new cholesterol." Homocysteine is a common amino acid (one of the building blocks that make up protein) found in the blood that may increase the risk of heart disease according to a study at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Homocysteine is acquired mostly from eating meat. High levels of homocysteine are related to early development of heart disease and blood vessel disease. Those with higher levels of homocysteine had double the risk of heart disease. Folic acid (found in many vitamin and mineral supplements) safely and effectively reduces the level and the risk. Researchers are currently trying to figure out whether reducing high homocysteine levels will actually reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke....
Are there any health problems associated with exercise during pregnancy?

What is "Syndrome X"? Is it the same as Metabolic Syndrome?
The Metabolic Syndrome has also been referred to as “Syndrome X,” or the “insulin resistance-obesity syndrome.” Due to its rapidly increasing incidence, medical experts now refer to it as the “disease of the new millennium.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one in five adults in the United States already has Metabolic Syndrome and that the numbers will continue to grow because of Americans’ sedentary lifestyle. ...
How does thyroid disease affect weight? Does taking natural (armour) thyroid help people lose weight?
There is no question that an abnormal thyroid can lead to weight gain. The thyroid gland, located at the front of the neck, affects nearly every body system including metabolism. When too little thyroid is produced, metabolic rate slows, leading to weight gain in many people affected by the condition. ...
Does dieting or weight loss cause gallstones or gallbladder disease?
Gallstones are clumps of solid material, mostly cholesterol, that form in the gallbladder, a small pear-shaped organ located under the liver in the abdomen. The gallbladder contracts and releases bile, a fluid made in the liver that aids in digestion. Bile contains substances called bile salts that help break down fats in the food we eat. Bile also helps eliminate cholesterol from the body via the digestive system. ...

We do not feel that hair analysis has met adequate scientific rigor to recommend it to our clients....
